After we’d swam in the sea yesterday, we’d had a quick shower and the shower I’d used was vicious. It had really powerful needle like jets and was actually quite a painful experience. I’d told Emma but she had mocked me, thinking I was just being dramatic. Anyway, this morning, she tried the same shower and I could hear her little squeaks of pain, which reassured me that I wasn’t dramatic after all!

We had a lazy start today and did some more washing. It seemed every one at the campsite had the same idea, and all the machines were full to start with. Once I finally got a machine and did my washing, I then couldn’t work out how to open the door to retrieve it! Two women came over to help and after a lot of different button pushing and confusion, we freed the clothes, hurrah. They also gave me some tips on camping by Lake Bled as that’s where they’d come from, as well as the laundry situation there, which was apparently even more confusing.

We always seem to be the only people on a site who string up a big old washing line and hang everything out, but it always pleases me a lot.

We wandered out of the campsite to the nearest supermarket, a Croatian one we hadn’t visited before, to get a few bits for lunch. Emma has been desperately scanning the back of wafer biscuits looking for ones she can eat ever since we came away. I think it’s because of the discovery of Spain’s number one vegan snack last year, which was just a wafer biscuit it turned out, but delicious all the same. Anyway, today she finally found a suitable wafer biscuit, but it only came in a giant packet that weighed a ton. Still Emma didn’t let that stop her and is now the proud owner of many, many wafer biscuits.

We had lunch at the van, which was a very European affair, consisting of bits we’d bought previously on our travels. We had Slovenian pumpkin seed hummus, weird cracker things from France (a bit like giant plain prawn crackers), the thinnest flat breads you’ve ever seen with rosemary from Italy, and carrot and a rye bread roll from Croatia.

After lunch we had a wander along the coast from the campsite and a swim in the sea, just soaking up the warmth and enjoying a slower pace. And then did some planning for the coming days. After my conversation with the laundry ladies, they’d advised that Camping Bled was a really nice site to stay at, but the owner had told them they shouldn’t have booked through pitchup because it would have been a lot cheaper going direct. Anyway, based on that info and looking at the prices, Emma emailed the campsite and we saved €30 over three nights.

Emma says I always end my blogs abruptly, but I don’t think that’s …
